MIDDLE DANUBE. Uncertain tribe. 2nd century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 20 mm, 12.48 g, 12 h), 'Kroisbach mit Reiterstumpf' type. Mint in Burgenland or western Slovakia. Diademed, beardless male head with boxer's nose to right. Rev. Rider on horseback to left, showing only his torso, his hair bound with diadem and tied into a topknot with three trailing curls; below, ground line ending in two torcs. Dembski 1391. Flesche 525. Lanz 744. OTA 469. SLM 1168-1171. Beautifully toned and sharply struck, with a particularly attractive 'boxer head'. Extremely fine.
